ERMES - An entity-relationship modeling expert system

This article presents concepts and a specific theory of a knowledge-based system for conceptual data modeling that uses a stepwise refinement modeling process. The nonexpert user communicates with the system using a restricted natural language. The system builds semantic networks from the knowledge specified by users and transforms these networks into an entity-relationship schema. The result of the modeling process is a complete, nonambiguous entity-relationship schema. 11 refs.
