Abstract:
Abstract As countries decarbonise, the competition for land between energy generation, nature conservation and food production will likely increase. To counter this, modelling, and sometimes energy policies, use exclusion zones to restrict energy deployment from land deemed as important to society. This paper applies the spatially-explicit ADVENT-NEV model to Great Britain to determine the cost imposed on the energy system when either environmental or food production exclusion zones are applied. Results show that exclusion zones impose a cost of up to £0.63 billion (B), £19.17 B and £1.33 B for the solar, wind, and bioenergy pathways. These costs give an indication of the value being placed on protecting these areas of land. When multiple exclusions are imposed on bioenergy, the high pathway is infeasible indicating a more flexible approach may be needed to meet net zero ambitions. The model also shows how the value of ecosystem services changes when exclusion zones are applied, highlighting how some exclusions increase non-market costs whereas others decrease them. In several cases exclusion zones are shown to increase social costs, the opposite of their intended use. For these exclusions to be justifiable, the unobserved values missing from the model must be as large as these increases.Keywords:

Purpose: Energy use is expected to increase globally, and the use of renewable energy is growing as a solution. Increased use of renewable energy transforms building users into prosumers, and prosumers can form communities to share energy between buildings. In this study, propose methods to utilize the surplus energy generated between energy generation and energy consumption through renewable energy to promote renewable energy and energy sharing. The importance of renewable energy is increasing both with the inadequacy of traditional energy resources and environmental awareness. Turkey has a large potential for renewable energy sources, and utilizing the potential is an inevitable choice for increasing its self-sufficiency with an environmentally friendly way. Therefore, evaluation of renewable energy alternatives for the country and determination of the most suitable renewable energy alternative are important issues to make reasonable energy investment plan. In this study, we evaluate the renewable energy alternatives of Turkey using Modified Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process. Renewable energy alternatives considered in the study are hydro, wind, solar, biomass and geothermal energy. Four main criteria and eight sub criteria are used to evaluate five renewable energy alternatives. The obtained results indicate that solar energy is the best alternative, and wind energy is the second best alternative for Turkey. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the consumers’ adoption of renewable energy in Poland. The study focused on finding out the factors that influence the adoption of the technology, considering its importance in conserving the environment. The study was conducted using a quantitative method, with primary data collected from 467 households using renewable energy technology in Poland. The research adopted the TAM model. The independent variables of the study included renewable energy initial cost, environmental concern, risk and trust for renewable energy, ease of use, financial incentives, and relative advantage. The dependent variable was renewable energy adoption. Structural equation modelling (SEM) was used to analyze the study hypotheses. The research found out that environmental concerns, ease of use, financial incentives, and relative advantage have a positive and significant influence on adoption of renewable energy technology in Poland. However, renewable energy initial cost and risk, and trust for renewable energy did not significantly influence renewable energy adoption. The study recommended that the stakeholders should consider the aspects of environmental concern as a key role player in pushing for adoption of renewable energy. The government, non-governmental organizations, and concerned stakeholders should consider giving incentives towards renewable energy adoption. Creating awareness regarding the benefits and strengths of renewable energy should be prioritized to the households.

Countries and big power companies are using renewable energy sources to promote development, expand electricity access, and meet their policy targets for reliable, secure, sustainable and affordable energy. It is very difficult to specify which renewable energy technology is the most appropriate without having access to reliable information on the relative benefits of these energy sources. Germany has an experience of renewable energy policies that encourages their usage, achieving technological migration and the redesign of its power generation matrix, achieving 112 GW of renewable resources at 2017. The research aim is to identify the potential of using renewable energy sources in the in activities of industrial enterprises in the region. It is established that the rational use of energy resources is possible when taking into account all the possibilities of implementation one or another type of non-traditional energy sources. Based on economic assessment results, promising directions for the development of alternative energy in the region are noted. An analysis of the territorial possibilities of using renewable energy sources was carried out by calculating of total specific normalized potential level. The economic effects of the distributed generation facilities integration into the enterprises energy system are determined.

The increasing renewable source usage and energy efficiency enhancement represent the key aims of the energy sector's development in EU countries. The purpose of their implementation is at the same time the creation of the renewable sources concept as a new development paradigm.Thus, this points to the conclusion that all the projects of renewable source usage and energy efficiency enhancement must be viewed from the perspective of the manifestation of economic, environmental and social effects.Having these facts in mind the paper considers the place of renewable sources and energy efficiency in the energy policy of the EU. The analysis is primarily based on examination of the solutions that are defined in the directives of the European Commission that deal with renewable sources and energy efficiency.
