    Abstract:
This report is the result of the work of the EIP AGRI Focus Group (FG) on Ecological Focus Areas (EFAs) and more specifically on how landscape features (LFs) contribute to the profitability of arable crop production. The scientific literature shows that LFs provide habitats for beneficial insects and other arthropods, birds, plants etc. When appropriately designed and targeted, they also prove to be effective in controlling erosion, wind, and nutrient loss and providing landscape amenities. In this report, we focus on: i) ‘field margins’, the spontaneously established strips of herbaceous plants at the edge of fields; ii) ‘hedgerows’, composed of one or two rows of planted or naturally established shrubs and/or trees, and; iii) ‘grassy or flower strips’, intentionally sown, the former mostly with grasses and the latter with flowering plants. The central scope was to examine if and how landscape features could contribute to the profitability of arable crop production. Other direct economic effects for the farmers include the production of wood, fruits, grass for horses, etc. We also included the benefits of landscape features to the society (aesthetics, social value, ecosystem services towards society) that the markets mostly fail to provide. A farm and the embedding landscape are systems that should be approached in a holistic way.

With the social and economic development, the contradictions of arable land decline and non-agricultural construction area growing have become increasingly prominent. To solve the food security at the period of population peak, the state raised an important means of protecting arable land through the overall plan implementation. This paper concerns the problems of land tenure scale that exists in the overall planning of land tenure and suggests the new model.Next,it proposes the compute model of the arable total demand potential. Finally, determine the score the tenured arable land productive potential, combined the last year's score the tenured arable land productive potential, every year's changes of supply score of arable land productive and every year's changes of the score of arable land productive demanded.

Based on land and socio-economic data of Chibi city between 1998 and 2010,the dynamic change of local arable land were analyzed in the aspect of driving force and prospected by factor analysis and grey system prediction. Results showed that the overall trend of land quantity appeared downward first then upward, and driving forces mainly were economic factors, the internal structure of agriculture, social factors and so on suggestions for protecting arable land were put forward and the optimized design of arable land layout was proceeded base on that.

The basic aim of balance of arable land is to protect the synthetic ability of the grain production of the arable land. In the study, the production as a standard was introduced to the balance of arable land on the foundation of agricultural production. The relationship between arable land occupied and arable land replenished was achieved by production. The grain production capacity of arable land replenished should not be less than that of arable land occupied. The method, technical route and implement steps were presented based on the balance of arable land. It realized the application of agricultural production in the balance of arable land.

This paper focuses on techniques in utilizing remote sensor technology for precision crop production by farmers as climate change adaptation strategy in Nigeria. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study and was carried out between August 2013 and May 2014. The findings of the study revealed that 32 items were needed by farmers in utilizing sensory technology for precision crop production. The study recommended that the 32 items identified by the study should be utilized by extension agent in teaching the farmers the use of sensor technology for precision crop production while the farmers should make themselves available for the training.

A laboratory exercise was initiated using the computer crop model, PNUTGRO, for peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) during the introductory crop science course at the University of Georgia. The objectives of this study were to determine the computer competency of the students, introduce crop modeling, and determine if students perceive they acquire a better understanding of factors influencing crop production practices by using a computer crop model. Ninety six percent of the students stated that the computer crop model was effective in helping them comprehend factors that affect crop production. Ninety-eight percent of the students stated they would use the model if they were peanut producers themselves. Ninety-three percent indicated that the exercise should continue and of those students, 71% stated future labs should include more crop modeling exercises. Crop modeling proved to be perceived by students as an effective tool for teaching factors influencing crop production.

By investigating the quantity and quality of arable land in china, the thesis analysed the problems of Chinese arable land.On one hand,it reflected the situation of the loss of Chinese arable land resources and brought forward the main factors which influenced the loss of arable land resources in-depth.Then it put forward some measures to address the decline in arable land.On the other hand,it pointed out some problems of the quality of arable land, such as the poor quality of the overall land, pollutions and so on.Finally, the thesis proposed some suggestions to solve the problems.

The study was conducted in order to estimate the po st-harvest losses in tomato crop produced in Peshaw ar valley during Kharif 2006. Data were collected randomly from sixt y eight tomato growers in the area. The post-harves t losses of tomato crop in Peshawar valley were estimated 20% of the t otal production. There losses mainly occurred durin g picking of the crop, during handling and transportation to the mar kets, etc. To reduce these losses, farmers of the a rea need to be trained about the latest techniques of packaging, processin g of tomato crops, advanced techniques and methods of post-harvest handling.

Arable land is appraised for its economic value on the bases of its grade. There are many problems in arable land appraising practice that influence appraising precision, such as different opinions on arable land character and dif-ferent ideas on arable land. The aim of the article is to make people pay attention to balance of district arable land price standard, and concatenation and linking of arable land price and town land price at time and space.

Based on the statistical data in Tangshan City during 1978-2007,Selecting arable land area and GDP per capita as indices, the change processes and correlation between arable land area and economic growth were analyzed. The results showed that the economic growth of Tangsham City since 1978 was very rapid. The arable land reduced gradually and the arable land area showed a logarithmic decreasing trend with the increasing of per capita GDP.Based on this, some proposals were put forward for strengthening the management of arable land resources continuously, especially the management of construction occupation on arable land.
