It was prepared that Cu20Fe80 alloys using the mechanical alloying and cold pressing and the microwave sintering. The microstructure and the phase composition of Cu20Fe80 alloy were analyzed by SEM and XRD, respectively. The density and hardness of the alloys were measured. The effect of La2O3 on microstructure and properties of Cu20Fe80 alloy was investigated during the microwave sintering. The results have shown that the powder milling structure of Cu20Fe80 alloy is a flake layer which is refined and the mechanical alloying enhanced with increasing La2O3 content; The microstructure of the Cu20Fe80 alloy powder blank cold pressed is lamellar which gradually become dense, the density increases and the formability is improved with the increase of La2O3 content; The microstructure of the Cu20Fe80 alloys sintering was lamellar that the voids and the density and the hardness change with the increase of La2O3 content and the best La2O3 content was 0.2%.
Abstract Toughened and hardened alumina/carbon nanotubes and zirconia-toughened alumina (ZTA)/carbon nanotubes nanocomposites were developed by conventional ceramics route using pressureless sintering for the ballistic application. The multiwall carbon nanotubes (CNT) were functionalized with nitric acid oxidation reaction. Moreover, the surfactants sodium dodecyl sulphate and gum arabic were used to promote a homogeneous distribution of CNT in the ceramic matrix. Ceramic powders were prepared with pure alumina, alumina with the addition of 20 wt% of tetragonal zirconia/yttria, alumina/CNT and ZTA/CNT with the addition of 0.1 and 0.5 wt% of CNT. The morphology of nanocomposites was characterized by SEM-FEG. The mechanical properties of sintered samples were evaluated by flexural bending, Vickers microhardness and fracture toughness by SEVNB method. The addition of CNT in the ceramic and composite caused a general increase in densification, hardness, flexural strength and fracture toughness. ZTA composite with the addition of 0.1 wt% of CNT yielded the best results.

Composite materials get an importance in value as an advance materials such as automotive, aerospace, aircraft, defense, medical, marine, sports, recreation and various engineering applications due to their high strength-to- weight ratio, good cast ability and better tribological properties. Al-base 2024 alloy reinforced with SiC micron and nano particles were developed using stir casting technique due to low cast, ease in fabrication, recyclability and isotropic characteristics. The development of Aluminum metal matrix nano composites (AMMNCs) is most considered material for high temperature applications because of their excellent mechanical properties, increase performance and weight saving for more reduction of fuel consumption. The results indicate that Al–SiC composite has improved physical and mechanical properties such as tensile strength, charpy impact strength, brinell hardness, density and porosity percentage. Samples with micron particles and nano particles were developed to compare the properties of both. Microstructures of the samples were studied by means of x-ray Diffraction and Scanning Electron Microscopy. The elemental composition was also analyzed through Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy. It was found that composites of Al–SiC have better and improved physical properties in nano dimensions.
