The Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) has been widely used to predict behavioral intention of different kinds. However, there is a lack of studies that have measured the factorial structure of the TPB instrument. In addition, findings that apply to one context may not be appropriate in different settings. Thus, it is important to focus on measurement and instrument development issues to contribute to theory building. Based on a sample of 210 managers/owners of small and medium sized businesses in Chile, this research uses confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and structural equation modeling (SEM) to test the underlying factor structure and assess reliability and validity of the TPB instrument. The results provides support for a revised TPB model which explains eighty-one percent of the variance in intention by using attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control variables. Thus, the evidence supports the use of an eleven-item instrument when applying the TPB in this international context.

In this study, the Theory of Planned Behavior is used as a theoretical framework to construct a model that could predict and explain college student's intentions to participate in online-recruiting.300 college students completed a questionnaire.Through structural equation analysis, this study found that the model adequately accounted for the data:(1) attitude and online-recruiting-specific Internet self-efficacy(SISE) had a positive effect on the intentions to participate in online-recruiting.(2) Interpersonal norm and perceived usefulness had a positive effect on attitude, while perceived risk had a negative effect on attitude.(3) General Internet self-efficacy(GISE) had a positive effect on SISE.GISE had no direct effect on intention, but had an indirect effect on intention through SISE.

Evidence-based management (EBMgt) is considered the best practice in decision-making for healthcare administrators. However, the adoption of EBMgt has been slow by U.S. healthcare administrators. Few studies have examined what influences healthcare administrators' behaviors toward the use of EBMgt in today's U.S. health system. The purpose of this study was to apply the theory of planned behavior (TPB) and structural equation modeling (SEM) to predict intention to use EBMgt among U.S. healthcare administrators. A cross-sectional, non-experimental study was conducted, using a two-stage cluster sample of 154 health leaders in U.S. healthcare organizations. The data were collected and entered into the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) 22.0. SEM was performed using Analysis of Moment Structures (AMOS) 22.0. The study findings showed that healthcare administrators' intention to use EBMgt was statistically and significantly predicted by their attitudes (β = 0.55) and perceived behavioral control (β = 0.38) at the significance level of <0.001. The results also showed that education positively moderated the relationship between attitudes and intention to use EBMgt (P < 0.001). The findings suggest that the TPB is a useful theory model for predicating healthcare administrators' behavioral intention to use EBMgt.

Purpose: Understanding the factors that affect nursing staffs' intention and practice of physical restraint (PR) on older adults help develop restraint-reduction programs. This study aimed to identify the relationship between the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) constructs and nursing staffs' practice to use PR in long-term care (LTC) facilities. Patients and Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted via convenience sampling among 316 nursing staff in six Chinese LTC facilities. PR-TPB questionnaire and the practice subscale of the Chinese version of the Staff Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices Questionnaire regarding PR were used to collect the data. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to examine the relationship between variables. Results: The SEM fit well with the data (χ 2 / df =1.639, RMSEA = 0.045, CFI= 0.955, GFI=0.945). Attitude ( β =0.536, P < 0.001) and perceived behavioral control (PBC) ( β =0.139, P < 0.05) predicted intention ( R2 =0.359). PBC was a significant predictor of practice, with R2 accounting for 0.151. Conclusion: TPB provided useful insight into better understanding nursing staffs' PR practices, although it did not support all the TPB principles significantly. Prospective studies may be conducted to design and implement multi-component interventions based on TPB and explore the effectiveness of PR reduction in LTC facilities in-depth.
