An analytical approach to the unavailability estimation of protected connections in optical networks
Most existing methods for unavailability estimation of protected connections in optical networks using shared backup are approximate. This paper presents an analytical approach to the unavailability estimation. The failure state probabilities used by the approach are derived from an analytical way. The computed unavailability values based on the analytical state probabilities are viable.

The process industry has always been faced with the challenging tasks of determining the overall unavailability of safety instrumented systems (SISs). The unavailability of the safety instrumented system is quantified by considering the average probability of failure on demand. To mitigate these challenges, the IEC 61508 has established analytical formulas for estimating the average probability of failure on demand for K-out-of-N (KooN) architectures. However, these formulas are limited to the system with identical components and this limitation has not been addressed in many researches. Hence, this paper proposes an unavailability model based on Markov Model for different redundant system architectures with non-identical components and generalised formulas are established for non-identical k-out-of-n and n-out-of-n configurations. Furthermore, the proposed model incorporates undetected failure rate and evaluates its impact on the unavailability quantification of SIS. The accuracy of the proposed model is verified with the existing unavailability methods and it is shown that the proposed approach provides a sufficiently robust result for all system architectures.

In this paper, we introduce a simple analytical modeling approach for computing service unavailability due to long response time, for infinite and finite single-server systems as well as for multi-server systems. Closed-form equations of system unavailability based on the conditional response time distributions are derived and sensitivity analyses are carried out to analyze the impact of long response time on service unavailability. The evaluation provides practical quantitative results that can help distributed system developers in design decisions

Web services' high usability is restrained by services unavailability which includes binding unavailability, invoking unavailability and executing unavailability. There has main reason is environment changing which causes Web services unavailability. The reflection technologies are presented to improving Web services self-adaptive and robust ability in this paper. The reflection layers are deployed in client's and server's sides to catch the traps that are some status of Web services unavailability. The reflection layers can adjust the internal structures and states of services, which avoid services unavailability in time and make services adapt to environment changing. The methods and process procedures of the reflection layers are introduced to solve problems of services unavailability. The experiment and analysis is shown that it is effective that using reflection technology to deal with services unavailability.

It is of great importance to determine the dimensions of working operation in making mechanical processing procedure. When process reference is coincident with the design reference, anti-derivation principle is used to determine process dimension according to the process allowance and economy precision. While process reference is not coincident with the design reference, it is needed to use the principle of dimension chain to calculate the dimensions of working operations. In this paper, combined with the machining of gear hole, a new method of analyzing and calculating the process dimension chains is discussed in details.
