Abstract:
Supply chain risk management has drawn tremendous attention from academic researchers and practitioners in the recent period. Several attempts were made by the practitioners and academicians to understand supply chain risks and their sources. As the supply chain environment is getting sophisticated day by day, the understanding of supply chain becomes increasingly challenging and need of the hour. This empirical paper attempts to understand the sources of supply chain risk and its effect on supply chain demand management. Survey instrument was administered to collect response from the manufacturing companies in India. Data was analysed with the help of PLS and SmartPLS 2.0 M3 was utilised to compute PLS. The result shows that the variables like supply management capability, supply chain information management and supply chain environmental uncertainty management capability are having positive impact on supply chain risk as well as on supply chain demand management. These findings will provide various insights for the practitioners and be used as a knowledge repository in the area of supply chain risk management.Keywords:

In the last two decades, supply chain operations have changed drastically. Globalization of
the market, shortened product life cycle, global outsourcing and offshoring, and increasing
complexity of the supply base has resulted in modern supply chains becoming more
vulnerable than ever. There are also more frequent natural or man-made disasters which
disrupt the supply chain operations. All these have led to higher exposure of risks of supply
chains and the failure to manage these risks has costed organizations dearly. Supply chain
risk management has thus emerged as an important area for both practitioners and academics.
As a nascent area, research in supply chain risk management is characterized by gaps in terms
of no clear consensus on the understanding of supply chain risks and inadequate empirical
studies in risk management strategies. This study is thus developed to address these gaps.
Drawn on the Theory of Swift, Even Flow and the relational view, this study proposes that
supply chain risk undermines supply chain performance and supply chain collaboration
reduces supply chain risks and empirically examines these relationships. This study takes a
supply chain perspective and examines risks from the supply side, the internal production
process and the demand side which compose a direct supply chain. This is in line with a
holistic and systems view of supply chain management. Furthermore, this study also
attempts to understand the mechanism by which supply chain collaboration reduces supply
chain risks.
This empirical study applied a mixed method with two-phase research design. In Phase One,
a survey research was conducted and quantitative data were collected from 203
manufacturing companies in Australia. Structural equation modelling was used to test eight
hypotheses about the relationships between supply chain risk, supply chain performance and
supply chain collaboration. In Phase Two, two in-depth case studies were conducted in
Australia and China, and qualitative data were collected from six companies involved. These

include one Australian company manufacturing scientific instruments and two of its suppliers,
and one Australian provider of sport hardware and two of its suppliers. Qualitative data
analysis included cross-case analysis and pattern matching to further improve and deepen the
understanding of supply chain risks as well as supply chain collaboration as a risk mitigation
strategy.
The results of this study indicate that supply chain risks undermine supply chain performance
and supply chain collaboration reduces supply chain risks. This study contributes to the
literature through empirically verifying these relationships (the relationship between supply
chain risk and supply chain performance; the relationship between supply chain collaboration
and supply chain risk) which have not been empirically investigated thoroughly in earlier
studies. This study also contributes to risk management in general and supply chain risk
management in particular, through clarifying the confusion in the extant literature and
providing a better understanding of supply chain risk. Furthermore, this study contributes to
the body of knowledge on supply chain risk management through fostering a supply chain
perspective. It investigates risks along a direct supply chain, including supply risk, process
risk and demand risk, as well as the interrelations between them. The study also improves the
understanding of a collaborative approach in risk mitigation through providing an explanation
of the approach based on the relationship between information and uncertainty as well as the
relational view.
The major theoretical contribution of this study is the application of the Theory of Swift,
Even Flow which is very limited in its application since it was proposed. This study
empirically tested the propositions of this theory through a survey study which is scant in the
extant literature. This study also provides insights to supply chain practitioners to manage
supply chain risks with a systems approach and a holistic view.

This research examines the impact of supply chain risk management on supply chain integration, supply chain performance, and the moderation effects of supply chain social sustainability on these relationships. The results showed that supply chain risk management has a significant impact on supplier integration, internal integration, and customer integration. However, only supplier integration and internal integration significantly impact supply chain performance, while the relationship between customer integration and supply chain performance is not significant. The moderation effects of supply chain social sustainability positively enhance the impact of supply chain risk management on supplier integration and customer integration, while it reduces the impact of supply chain risk management on internal integration. The theoretical and practical implications are also provided in the current study.

Since the concept of supply chain is first put forward in the late 1980's,supply chain issues are studied from many perspectives.With the change of supply chain management practice and the development of supply chain management theory,there arise many new research perspectives and questions in the field of supply chain management.In the research,we mainly select important literature of supply chain management from international academic periodical,and make a review and discussion from the perspective of supply chain mechanism design,e-supply chain,information sharing in supply chain,optimization and model design of supply chain.Through analysis we point out the important research point in the field of supply chain,for example,apphcation of information technology in supply chain management and contract design in supply chain will still be the future research focus.The issues of Green supply chain management,knowledge management in supply chain,cost and performance measurement in supply chain will attract more emphasis,and will be the new important research focus in the field of supply chain management.

Market globalization and its uncertainties, change of customer requirements, technological progress and other factors contributed to the development of new attitudes to row materials, products and services supply, production as well as logistics operations management and control. A supply chain management concept and its practical solutions are developed aiming for a growth of efficiency of physical, informational and financial flows, including all the processes from a row material production and procurement till the consumer goods delivery. As research showed, supply chain management solutions depend on the factors, which are a subject for change. The paper reveals and analyses the perspectives for supply chain management in response to market change, risk awareness and competitive priorities established. Based on these perspectives a Supply chain management framework is proposed. The research allowed to recognize an importance of supply chain management through the stages of supply chain design, integration and coordination, and to state that if not appropriately managed from the very beginning supply chain has to cope with a smaller efficiency, deeper control, and greater risk of failure problems latter. Even aspects of supply chain management itself have become increasingly specialized. Transportation management is becoming a specialty distinct from overall logistics management, whereas purchasing is specializing in applied topics like sourcing strategies, supplier quality methods, value engineering, and so on. The supply chain is treated as integrity which is composed of many operating elements realizing their own goals by means of taking part in the chain.
