Abstract:
In the construction area, visuals such as drawings, photos, videos, and 3D models, play a significant role in the design, build and maintenance of a facility, bringing efficiency to generate, transfer, and store information. Advanced visual computing techniques facilitate the understanding of design contents, work plans, and other types of information shared in the construction industry. Automatic visual data collection and analysis provide many possibilities to the construction industry and a large number of works have investigated how visual computing can improve construction management processes and other problems in the construction area. However, a comprehensive literature review is needed. This study uses bibliometric approaches to review the works published to date, and analyses the development of knowledge, significant research results, and trends. The purpose of this study is to help newcomers to this research field understand knowledge structure and formulate research directions, thereby enhancing knowledge development. From this study, it can be concluded that computer vision is a key axis of improvement. Moreover, building information modeling, laser scanning, and other visualization-related techniques are also important in advancing the construction area.Keywords:

The construction industry of today’s world is becoming more challenging and the projects, on the other hand, are becoming more complex than before. The projects in construction industry consume huge proportions of resources especially in-terms of financial resources. Malaysian construction industry is also no exception to this challenging environment. Different concepts and technology innovations have been developed to mitigate and rule out factors affecting the performance of the construction industry. Building Information Modeling is one of them (BIM). The BIM technology helps building in a virtual environment prior to physical construction. This objective of this study is to propose a model / frame work based on BIM technology which will allow reducing the potential adverse affects of delays, cost overrun, productivity, quality and other errors in the light of the available literature and past construction practices. Building information modeling (BIM) has gained much attention in the past years, but its legal and contractual aspects have not often been explored. Scholars have addressed the urge to deeply investigate BIM in the management of the construction field. In response to this need, this research paper attempts to help construction stakeholders by shedding the light on the contractual requirements of BIM in the construction industry. Toward this goal, the authors identify the risks associated with BIM, examined BIM contractual standards, and assess their coverage.

Abstract The introduction of Building Information Modelling (BIM) in Malaysia has been fairly recent and is gaining popularity. Although most literature have been focused on the adoption and application of BIM in Malaysia construction industry, the effectiveness of BIM has not been investigated. This study aims to investigate the influence of BIM on the Malaysian construction industry. A qualitative approach was taken and interviews were conducted with professionals with prior knowledge in both the construction industry and BIM. Information obtained from the interviews was used to identify and categorise the determining factors. It was found that the application of BIM in Malaysian construction industry is somehow not fully effective in terms of time and cost, owing to the absence of standards in modelling and the frequent request for design changes. However, the results also show that BIM in Malaysia has the potential to be as effective as other developed countries if the major problems addressed being solved.

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a technology that is currently emerging in the construction industry. BIM is defined as a modeling technology and associated set of process to produce communicate, and analyse building models throughout the projects lifecycle. Nevertheless, in Malaysia show that the adoption of BIM is still early stage because only a few companies that implementing BIM in their organization. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to identify the level awareness of implementation BIM among project manager, and to identify the barrier of BIM implementation in construction industry. Questionnaire have been used to obtain the data. There are 65 sets of questionnaire have been collected back. Consequently, result of this study stated that most of the project manager in Kelantan are aware on the implementation of BIM in construction industry. The main barriers for implementing the BIM are lack of training and respondents also said that BIM is expensive to implement in their organization.

Abstract This paper presents the level of Building Information Modelling (BIM) practices in the current UK construction industries. A survey was undertaken which contains a series of a self-explanatory questionnaire. The survey analysis provides an understanding of the level of BIM in practice and how BIM can be incorporated in the future construction industries from theory to practice. Findings suggest that most big companies are in the process of adopting BIM at some level of practice, while small companies are dropped behind. BIM is also very much depending on the clients’ demand and the project complexity. Overall, the infrastructure construction industry is moving forward in the direction of complete BIM in practice.

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is increasingly being implemented in the construction industry to produce data-rich models of buildings and structures. BIM was introduced to the Malaysian construction industry by the Public Works Department (PWD) in 2007. Since then, the Malaysian government has taken initiatives to promote BIM in construction projects. This paper aims to explore those initiatives in promoting and encouraging construction players to use BIM. A semi-structured interview was conducted with the Head of BIM Unit Projects, PWD, to explore BIM initiatives made by PWD. It revealed several initiatives have been carried out by PWD, which could increase the use of BIM in the construction projects.

Building Information Modelling (BIM) has rapidly developed in the construction industry recently; it is also considered as one of the core concepts in the Industry 4.0. However, BIM understanding is always seen as a significant problem for BIM implementation. Therefore, this paper aims to provide the insights into BIM awareness of the construction practitioners with the focus on the BIM definition in the New Zealand construction industry where BIM is still in its early stages. 22 interviews were conducted with 26 construction experts holding important positions in their companies and having at least eight years’ experience in the industry. The results indicated that BIM has a variety of meanings to the interviewees. Four different definitions including Building Information Model, Building Information Modelling, Building Information Management, and Software/Technology were identified which was considered inappropriate, the fallacies of definition, for the construction industry. Also, most of the construction practitioners are seen as not well-aware of BIM, especially the SMEs. Furthermore, the results also indicated that the BIM survey potentially provided a false result at least regarding the BIM adoption rate in the New Zealand construction industry, which urges the BIM survey host to clarify the BIM definition before conducting the survey. The results of this paper are hoped to alarm the government and construction organizations to have a unique BIM definition for BIM development in New Zealand to ensure the consistent understanding among the industry.

Building Information Modelling (BIM) is consider as a new technology in Malaysia construction industry and BIM helps to speed up and facilitate the construction progress. BIM is defined as a modelling technology and associated set of processes to produce, communicate and analyse the building models throughout the entire project. However, the adoption of BIM application in Malaysia construction industry still consider low although there is bound of benefits that gained from the BIM application. The aim of the research is conducted to setting new trends of integrated BIM for Malaysia construction industry. The objective of this study is to analyse the term and condition in contract if BIM has been implemented in a project. Besides, the study also helps to identify the level of acceptance of term and condition in contract between developer and contractor. Meanwhile, this study will determine the availability of the resources in implementing BIM in Malaysia construction industry. The data is collected by using interview and questionnaire method. The interview has been conducted with 5 respondents with BIM experience to analyse the term and condition in contract if BIM has been implemented. Furthermore, interview has been conducted to identify the availability of the resources in implementing BIM. However, 100 sets of questionnaire is distribute to the developer and contractor to identify the level of acceptance of term and condition between developer and contractor. Data that are collected is sent for analysis to get the results to draw a conclusion for analyse the term and condition that can be used in Malaysia construction industry. Data collected shows that most of the respondents are agree to accept the term and condition in contract if some of the term has been amend or BIM contract formed in Malaysia. Furthermore, the research has identified the availability of the resources in Malaysia but it is insufficient to construction parties to implement it. Therefore, Government have to provide more resources such as incentive and high technology system to the parties to implement BIM in the project. Overall, Government and the local authority have to provide a standard form of BIM contract in Malaysia construction industry to ensure that all the construction parties can implement BIM in a project with clear and standardise term and condition in a contract.

The construction industry believes that Building Information Modelling (BIM) are able to reduce the problem faced by the infrastructure world. Nowadays, the construction industry faced many problems due to dependency on the traditional practice. Therefore, the application of BIM in the construction industry will help the construction projects become more successful. Fourteen (14) papers were referred through extensive literature review and the study aims to discuss the benefits and barriers of using BIM in the construction industry. Furthermore, the strategic planning being implemented the BIM within the next 5 years in Malaysia also been discussed.

Building information modelling is gradually being recognised by the architecture, engineering, construction, and operation industry as a valuable opportunity to increase the efficiency of the built environment. Focusing on the wood construction industry, BIM is becoming a necessity; this is due to its high level of prefabrication and complex digital procedures using wood sawing machines and sophisticated cuttings. However, the full implementation of BIM is still far from reality. The main objective of this paper is to explore the barriers affecting BIM implementation in the Swedish construction industry. An extensive literature review was conducted to extract barriers hindering the implementation of BIM in the construction industry. Secondly, barriers to the implementation of BIM in the wood construction industry in Sweden were extracted using the grounded theory methodology to analyse expert input on the phenomenon of low BIM implementation in the wood construction industry in Sweden. Thirty-four barriers were identified. The analysis of this study also led to the development of a conceptual model that recommended solutions to overcome the barriers identified to help maximise BIM implementation within the wood construction industry. Identifying the main barriers affecting BIM implementation is essential to guide organisational decisions and drive policy, particularly for governments that are considering articulating regulations to expand BIM implementation.
