The first description of the larva of Apsectus hystrix Sharp, 1902 (Coleoptera: Dermestidae) found in Mexico is presented. A short description of the pupa with illustrations is also given. A diagnosis to the three genera assigned to the Trinodini Casey, 1900 (Apsectus Sharp, 1902, Trinodes Dejean, 1821 and Evorinea Beal, 1961) is provided, including characteristics which distinguish the genera.

The first instar larva of Atractocerus brasiliensis (Lepetelier & Audinet-Serville, 1825) from state of Goiás, Brazil, and reared in laboratory, is described and illustrated. This is the second species with known first instar larva for the genus and the third for the family. Comparisons with mature larva of this species and with the other known first instar larvae are presented. Illustrations of first instar and mature larvae are also included.

The first instar larva and the egg of Labidostomis longimana (Linnaeus, 1761) are described and illustrated and these of Labidostomis tridentata (Linnaeus, 1758) are re-described and illustrated from laboratory-reared specimens. The descriptions are compared with one another and with those of the same developmental stages in species of the genus known in the literature, i.e. the larva of Labidostomis tridentata (Linnaeus, 1758) and the eggs of L. taxicornis (Fabricius, 1792), and L. cyanicornis Germar, 1822. The third instar larva of Amithao haematopus (Burmeister) from Chiapas, Mexico, is described as the first description of a larva in this genus. The third instar larvae and pupa of Marmarina maculosa (Olivier) from Veracruz, Mexico are described. The third instar larvae and pupa of Hoplopyga liturata (Olivier) from Veracruz are described, including comments on first and second instar larvae. The third instar larva of Gymnetis hebraica difficilis Burmeister from Veracruz, is described. The larva of Gymnetis flavomarginata sallei Schaum is redescribed with specimens from Veracruz, including differences with second and first instar larvae and the description of the pupa. All of these species are included in a key to the larvae of New World Gymnetini, which now has 14 species in nine genera.
