    Abstract:
Objective: Aim of this study was to determine the incidence of obesity in health professionals and to investigate the effects of obesity on depression and physical health. Materials and Methods: Research has been applied to the medical staff and auxiliary staff of Mustafa Kemal University Research Hospital. 131 individuals were included in the study. Socio-demographic information form, New York Posture Analysis and Beck Depression Scale were applied. Body Mass Index (BMI), daily working hours, daily number of meals, perception of body image, eating habits and sleep state were examined. Results: Individuals with age between 19-60 were included in the study. 52 individuals were male, 72 of them were female. Of these individuals, 85 were married, 46 were single. A statiscally significant relationship has not been found between spending time at the dining table and obesity. Statistically significant difference has been found between BMI and perception. Also, statistically significant relationship has been found between exessive consumption of food in a meal and obesity. There has been no significant relationship between drinking water while eating meal and less chewing meals. Acidic drink consumption frequency has been found to be more in obese individuals than others. A significant difference has been found between fruit-vegetable consumption frequency and BMI. It has been observed that obese and overweight individuals consume fruits more frequently than normal and slim individuals. Frequency of consumption of sugary and fatty foods has been seen more in obese and overweight individuals than normal and weak individuals. Statistically significant difference has been found between number of meals and BMI. Conclusion: Identification of the prevalence of obesity which is a society problem with increasing importance and factors affecting obesity in healthcare workers who are the main persons fighting against the obesity are extremely important. It has been thought that obesity brings significant orthopedic problems due to postural issues. Additionally, body image perception in overweight and obese individuals result in a bio-psycho-socio-cultural aspects and treatment program must be created comprehensively. Obesity causes systemic diseases, especially cardiac, diabetes and orthopedic problems, so appropriate and specific exercises should be given individually.
The present study aimed to identify the prevalence of risk and protective factors for noncommunicable disease (NCDs) among Brazilian adults with pre-obesity and obesity and compare it to that of non-overweight adults in the country. Data from the National Health Survey (NHS) 2013 (n = 40,942) and 2019 (n = 87,678) were used. Nutritional status was described for 2013 and 2019 according to sociodemographic characteristics, health conditions, and risk and protective factors for NCDs. Poisson regression models were used to analyze the crude and adjusted prevalence of risk and protective factors for NCDs with nutritional status in both years. Adults with pre-obesity and obesity were more likely to perform risk factors related to sedentary behavior (prolonged screen time) and less leisure-time physical activity (among adults with obesity) and active commuting (among adults with pre-obesity and obesity) and alcohol abuse. However, among adults with pre-obesity and obesity, a lower prevalence was observed in relation to the regular consumption of sweets and smoking. The identified risk and protective factors had a similar prevalence between 2013 and 2019. Brazilian adults with pre-obesity and obesity presented worrisome scenarios regarding risk and protective factor for NCDs.

Background: India with around 1.2 billion people is the world’s second most populous country and is recently facing rapid epidemiological transition. Under nutrition because of poverty which ruled in the past is being rapidly replaced by overweight and obesity. Methods: The cross-sectional study was done among school going Adolescents. Sample size was 309. Questionnaire of Global School Health Survey (core questionnaire of site specific) was used. The independents variables were dietary habits like eating fruits, vegetables, fast food, dairy products, bakery products, sweets, chocolates and carbonated soft drinks whereas the dependent variables were overweight and obesity. Results: The 53 (17.15%) of the students were having overweight and 22 (07.12%) of them were obese. No association observed between dietary habits like locally available fruits and vegetables with overweight and obesity. Significant association observed between dietary habits like fast food, dairy products, bakery products, sweets, chocolates and carbonated soft drinks with overweight and obesity. Conclusions: Unhealthy dietary habits had noticeable impact on prevalence of overweight and obesity among school going adolescents.

Among the causes of obesity, environmental factors have also been studied, in addition to genetic, social, psychological, and hormonal factors. The distribution of food outlets, facilitating or hindering food acquisition, can promote body weight control by encouraging healthier food habits. The objective of this study was to investigate associations between environmental availability and utilization of food outlets and overweight/obesity in 7 to 14-year-old schoolchildren in Florianópolis, in the South of Brazil. A logistic regression analysis identified a positive association between overweight/obesity in 2195 schoolchildren and the presence of restaurants in the vicinity of their homes (buffer = 400 meters). Being a member of a family that utilizes public markets/greengrocers was also positively associated with overweight/obesity in the sample investigated. Identifying the distribution of these establishments in the vicinity of the homes of schoolchildren in middle-income countries is an important element in understanding the role played by the food environment in weight gain in a variety of different settings.

The results of an epidemiological survey indicate high incidence of obesity and overweight among adult population in a district of Moscow and in the Moscow region. Obesity and overweight were recorded in 46.3% of persons examined at a large industrial enterprise, in 35% at a food plant; 16% of persons with overweight and 26% with obesity were recorded among the unorganized population of the district in Moscow; 35.4% of sovkhoz workers were obese. The survey has shown that the main reasons for high incidence of obesity are excessive nutrition and poor physical activity. Obesity is a risk factor for the development of various diseases and carries hazards for the health of the population.

Background: Overweight and obesity are defined as abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that presents a risk to health. Medical students are more prone to gain excess weight due to long study hours and unhealthy food habits. Aim and Objective: The aim of the study was to find out the prevalence and social and environmental correlates of obesity among undergraduate students of a medical college of a rural area in central Uttar Pradesh, India. Methodology: A cross-sectional study was conducted in one of the medical colleges of central Uttar Pradesh, India. Data were collected on socio-demographic and behavioural factors, and anthropometric assessments were carried out using standard equipment and procedures. Results: The proportion of overweight/obesity was 15.6%. Fast food consumption, per capita income and hypertension were found to have statistically significant association with overweight/ obesity.

Worldwide, overweight and obesity have become an important public health problem affecting the health of children and adolescents. In China, the prevalence of overweight and obesity has reached 19 percent among the 6–17-year-old age group. Although studies have shown that regular consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs), especially sugar-sweetened carbonated beverages (SSCBs), is positively correlated with overweight and obesity among children, the research on ways to reduce SSBs consumption is scarce. This study fills this gap by analyzing data on nearly 4000 students aged between 9–15 from the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in China, exploring possible influential pathways between subjective dietary knowledge, SSCBs consumption, and child obesity. The estimation results show that SSCBs consumption significantly mediates the relationship between dietary knowledge and the incidence of overweight and obesity; the mediated effects are different among subgroups. Therefore, improving dietary knowledge related to the lowing of SSBs consumption to reduce the obesity risk may be considered a possible way to reduce the prevalence of overweight and obesity among children.
