Objective To investigate the correlation between the brain natriuretic peptide(BNP)level in serum and the severity of heart failure(HF)as well as the left ventricular function(LVF)in patients with HF.Methods 122 patients with HF before and after treatment and 20 control subjects were investigated by measuring the BNP level in serum, the left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF)and the left ventricular end-diastolic diameter(LVEDD).Results The serum BNP level in patients with HF were markedly higher than those of control group(P0.01),and the increase of BNP level was closely correlated with the severity of NYHA function class. The BNP levels were correlated negatively with the LVEF(r=-0.34,P0.001).After treatment, the LVEDD in HF patients was obviously improved(P0.05),however,the BNP level in serum was markedly decreased after treatment. Conclusion The increase of BNP levels is closely correlated with the severityof HF,further more, the BNP levels also better reflected the LVF.

Objective:To investigate the value of B-type natriuretic peptide(BNP)level in diagnosis of heart failure(HF)and assessment of heart function. Methods:Thirty eight HF patients and 42 normal controls were determined left ventricular end-diastole dimension(LVEDD)by echocardiography, left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF)by Simpson's formula.Venous blood BNP level was detected simultaneously. After treatment for 3-4 weeks, all of the HF patients were determined echocardiography and BNP level again. To observe the changes of all indexes, and the correlation between BNP level and LVEF,LVEDD.Results:The BNP level in the HF group was obviously higher than controls(P0.01).The BNP level was decreased in HF group after treatment(P0.01).BNP level had negative correlation with LVEF(=-0.72,P0.01)and positive correlation with LVEDD(=0.45,P0.01).Area under the ROC curve was 0.987 of BNP level for diagnosis of heart failure.Accepting the BNP standard as 96.35ng/L,the sensitivity, specificity and accuracy rating were 92.7%,94.1% and 91.4% respectivly. Conclusion:The BNP level is helpful to diagnose HF and assess heart function .

Objective Plasma B-Type natriuretic peptide (BNP) was conducted asses the clinical value in the diagnosis of congestive heart failure and the relationship between BNP and ventriculai dysfunction. Methods We enrolled 127 patients with CHF. Plasma levels of B-Type natriuretic peptides (BNP) were measured and in these patients. Results The mean BNP concentration in blood samples obtained from patients with CHF was high gradually with the degree of NYHA from Ⅰ to Ⅳ. P0.01. The BNP level in patients with low left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) ≤ 0.05 were higher than in that with LVEF0.05, (P0.01). The BNP level in patients with high left ventricular end-diastolic diameter (LVEDD) ≥60mm was higher than in that with low LVEDD60mm, P0.01. Conclusions BNP plasma level is a good marker to left ventricular function.

To investigate the correlation between brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) and the cardiac function in patients with heart failure(HF), the plasma level of BNP was determined by IRMA and the left cardiac function parameters were measured on echocardiogram in patients with different grade of HF. The results showed that the plasma level of BNP elevated with the worsening of heart failure (NYHA classification). The plasma levels of BNP were negatively correlated with left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and left ventricular end-diastolic diameter (LVDd). The plasma level of BNP increases significantly along with the severity of HF classified by NYHA, and might be a biochemical parameter for evaluating the left ventricular function.

The aim of this study was to assess the value of the radioimmunometric determination of natriuretic peptide type-B (brain natriuretic peptide, BNP) in the diagnosis and prognosis of heart failure, and to study the association between BNP and the clinical, analytical and echocardiographic variables associated with the evolution of heart failure. The study group included 169 patients (74 women and 95 men; mean, 66 years) with heart failure of different causes, admitted consecutively to our hospital. BNP levels were measured with a radioimmunometric assay (Shionora BNP Cis ) after day 3 of admission. Patients were also studied by echocardiography. A significant association between the cause of heart failure and the BNP concentration was found (patients with ischaemic disease had the highest BNP values). Systolic function was worse in patients with ischaemic disease or dilated cardiomyopathy. High BNP values were also associated with advanced functional class and male sex. Plasma creatinine correlated positively with plasma BNP. However, we found no significant association with the other clinical variables evaluated. Of the echocardiographic variables analysed, BNP correlated positively with the ventricular diameter and pulmonary artery systolic pressure, and inversely with the shortening fraction; patients with severely impaired systolic function had the highest BNP values. It can be concluded that BNP levels (by radioimmunometric assay) are increased in patients with heart failure, and increase in relation to left ventricular dysfunction and the severity of heart failure. The strong independent association of plasma BNP with the left ventricular ejection fraction, its stability and the low cost of measurement suggest that plasma BNP assay could become a routine test. BNP assay could be included as an important factor in clinical and therapeutic decision making, as it complements the information provided by other variables used in the diagnosis of heart failure.

Objective To investigate B type natriuretic peptide(BNP) in evaluation of cardiac function and diagnosis of chronic congestive heart failure. Methods The blood BNP level in 87 patients with heart failure was detected and the left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF) was measured by the modified Simoson's equation with echocardiography. The relationship of cardiac function with BNP level and LVEF was analyzed. The cardiac function was classified by NYHA class. The diagnosis of heart failure by clinical physicians according to case history, signs and symptoms, objective examination was considered to be golden standard. The patients with heart failure were subdivided into 3 groups according to LVEF. Results With the worsened cardiac function class, the BNP level increased significantly. And BNP level differed significantly among patients with NYHA Ⅰ~Ⅳ class, there were statistically significant differences(P0.01).The decreased LVEF resulted in elevated BNP,there was statistically significant difference(P0.01) comparing among the 3 groups. Conclusion BNP can objectively evaluate the cardiac function, and it can be used as a marker of clinical diagnosis of heart failure.
