Abstract:
The necessity of academic research in college and university libraries was discussed.Five measures were proposed,such as winning over the active participation and support of library leaders,and effective combination of academic research with library service.The problems in academic research to which attention should be paid were pointed out,and academic research should be encouraged in order to improve library service.Keywords:

The perceptions of faculty members from the faculties of social sciences and humanities regarding the role of the library in assisting with their research and teaching needs are compared with those of academic librarians. This research was designed as a comprehensive, mixed-methods study. First, interviews were conducted with faculty members and librarians; then, based on the findings, a questionnaire was constructed and distributed to faculty members and librarians in these departments. The main finding is that the contribution of library services to the various aspects of teaching and research is perceived as higher by the librarians than by the faculty members. Faculty members appear to expect more from the library in various aspects of research support; however, most faculty members believe that the library fulfils their teaching needs. Regarding research, faculty members believe most libraries support the technical aspects, but they do not support other aspects, such as locating the information or providing more comprehensive information relevant for the faculty members’ research. Therefore it is important to compare and resolve the differences between faculty and librarians’ perceptions. The findings of this study indicate that the perception in libraries needs to change, and some of these changes should be made already in the preparatory stages of the profession.

The Carolina Academic Library Associates program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-Chapel Hill) is a cooperative program of the University Library and the School of Information and Library Science. The program is designed to be a tool for recruitment and a way to better prepare master's degree students who choose to work in academic libraries. The program offers a model that could be adopted by other academic libraries interested in recruiting high quality graduates to academic librarianship.

Cooperative Link between the Academic and School Libraries through Academic Library Visiting Program
정보사회에서 대학도서관과 학교도서관은 학생의 정보활용능력 신장이라는 공통의 목적을 갖는다. 따라서 대학도서관과 학교도서관은 학생의 정보활용능력을 매개로 연계가 가능하다. 본고에서는 대학과 학교도서관의 연계 방안으로 대학도서관 방문프로그램을 소개하고 제안한다. 학교도서관의 입장에서 이 프로그램은 자료와 사서교사의 부족으로 어려움을 겪고 있는 도서관 기반 학습을 활성화 할 수 있는 대안이 될 수 있다. 대학도서관의 입장에서는 지역사회개방에 따른 자료부족 문제, 사서의 업무 증가 문제. 열람석 부족 문제 등을 해결할 수 있는 하나의 방안이 될 수 있다. 그리고 사서의 교육적 역할 증진에 기여할 것이다. In information society, enhancing information literacy is a common goal of the academic and school libraries. Consequently the academic libraries connect with the school libraries through information literacy In this study, a academic library visiting program is presented and proposed as a policy to link the academic and school libraries. This program may be a alternative to activate school library-based teaming and overcome lacks of resources and teacher librarians, in the academic libraries. it may be a policy to improve lacks of materials and carrels and overcome the problem of service increase in the opening academic library for local communities. And it will contributes to the educational role or the librarian.

This study concerns administrative support provided to encourage the research and publishing activities of academic librarians working in Association of Research Libraries member libraries. Deans and directors of these libraries were asked to respond to an online survey concerning the support measures that their libraries provide, as well as their thoughts on support measures that academic libraries should provide. When compared to earlier studies, the survey results indicate that most support measures have grown over time. Results also suggest increases in the requirements for publication in academic libraries, as well as in the number of libraries at which librarians have faculty status.
