Source integration is one of the core problems in data warehousing. Two critical factors for the design and maintenance of applications requiring source integration, and in particular data warehouse applications, are conceptual modeling of the domain, and reasoning support over the conceptual representation. We present a novel approach to conceptual modeling for source integration, which allows for suitably modeling the global concepts of the application, the individual information sources, and the constraints among different sources. Our methodological framework relies on the reasoning services associated with the modeling formalism to support an incremental source integration phase within the data warehouse design process.

Based on the study of data integration in the unified information platform of heterogeneous e-government system and the investigation of the design of e-government, the technology of topic maps and the relational database, a new data integrated model was issued. According to the analyze of relational database, this model realizes the data integration of the heterogeneous e-government system which generate a cross system subject index layer between the application layer and the data layer in several heterogeneous e-government system and use the technology of OAI-based metadata harvesting as well as the auto-generation and auto-combination of topic map.

Railway distributed system integration needs to realize information exchange, resources sharing and coordination process across fields, departments and application systems. And railway data integration is essential to implement this integration. In order to resolve the problem of heterogeneity of data models among data sources of different railway operation systems, this paper presents a novel integration data model of spatial structure, a XML-oriented 3-dimension common data model. The proposed model accommodates both the flexibility of level relationship and syntax expression in data integration. In this model, a spatial data pattern is used to describe and express the characteristic relationship of data items among all types of data. Based on the data model with rooted directed graph and the organization of level as well as the flexibility of the expression, the model can represent the mapping between different data models, including relationship model and object-oriented model. A consistent concept and algebraic description of the data set is given to function as the metadata in data integration, so that the algebraic manipulation of data integration is standardized to support the data integration of distributed system.

In order to resolve the problems of semantics integration of multi-source spatial data,based on the latest study results in spatial data and geo-ontology integrating fields,a method of spatial data integrating based on geo-ontologies was presented and a prototype system based on the method was implemented in this paper.The method was based on the hybrid ontology integration architecture and the strategy of local geo-ontologies integrating into standard geo-ontology was used,and all geo-ontologies involved in this method were described by a component called Common Intension Property Panel(CIPP) which included the intension properties of all geographic concepts in the concerned fields,and the CIPP was often given by the community specialists.Based on the CIPP,semantic relationships between geographic concepts in different geo-ontologies can be calculated and established,which can complete the integration of different geo-ontologies.Above all,the purpose and the key step of this method was to integrate spatial data which were from different information communities and had different goe-ontologies,and spatial data integration was completed based on semantic relationships between geographic concepts in different geo-ontologies and relationships between geographic concepts and feature classes,and included steps of SQL statements generating,feature sets selecting,geometry shape of selected features copying,and semantic granularity fining,spatial objects merging and splitting,and so on.Through these steps,spatial data having different geo-ontologies and their semantics were integrated successfully into the standard geodatabase,in which all feature classes have the same geo-ontology and semantics.Based on this method,a prototype system of spatial data integration based on geo-ontologies was designed and developed,which can provide users some convenient tools to build formal geo-ontologies automatically and integrate geo-ontologies and spatial datasets semi-automatically after integrating rules selected by users.The result of an example study of land use datasets integration using the prototype system showed that the spatial data integrating method based on geo-ontologies presented in this paper could integrate spatial datasets and their semantics efficiently.
