Abstract:
Natural plant ultraviolet absorbent is a safe cosmetic-typed ultraviolet additive, with no side-effect and bright future. Natural plant ultraviolet absorbent is ground from ultraviolet absorbing plant into organic solvent under dry-vacuum condition. This new type of ultraviolet absorbent has brown colour in solid form, but when it mixes with alcohol and water, its colour changes to light yellow in liquid form. This paper focuses mainly on using ultraviolet/visible spectrometer to examine its spectral properties under ultraviolet light. The result shows that this absorbent has a relative transmittance below 0.2% in the UVC and UVB zones, while in the UVA zone around 375 nm, the value raises up only to 2.1%. This concludes that the natural plant ultraviolet absorbent has a high absorbing ability under ultraviolet light and can withstand ultraviolet light with long wavelength. Keywords:

Background: Visual perception has hindered the development of blinded, placebo‐controlled ultraviolet light exposure conditions in humans. New acrylic thermoplastics that block or transmit ultraviolet light have visual properties that may provide a solution. Methods: In a series of triangle taste tests, 60 subjects were tested for the ability to visually perceive ultraviolet light transmission by two of four types of acrylic thermoplastics. Results: Forty‐six of sixty (67%) subjects were unable to visually detect ultraviolet light transmitting acrylics among ultraviolet blocking acrylics in both an ambient light background condition and an ambient light background condition with ultraviolet A light supplementation. Conclusion: Acrylic thermoplastics allow for the production of blinded, placebo‐controlled ultraviolet light exposure conditions by eliminating visual discrimination differences between active and control groups.

Purpose: The ultraviolet reflectance and transmittance of coastal building materials are one of the important factors of ultraviolet radiation in and out of coastal building. In this research, the ultraviolet spectral reflectance of many kinds of building materials was measured. Also, the relationships with the lightness, roughness, and chromaticity, which are surface characteristics, were reviewed and suggested. Method: In this study, according to the CIE classification, the ultraviolet region was defined as short-wavelength region UV-C(10nm~280nm), medium-wavelength region UV-B (280-315 nm), and long-wavelength region UV-A (315-400nm), and the visible light region was defined as (400nm ~780nm). Spectrophotometer was used to continuously measure the reflectance from the ultraviolet region to the visible light region. Results: From the measurement results, the ultraviolet reflectance on Wood was shown to be about Visible 55-68%, UV-A* 7-12%, and UV-B 4-5%. Wall tiles are about Visible18-40%, UV-A* 8-20%, and UV-B* 7-8%. That on concrete was shown to be about Visible 37%, UV-A* 28%, and UV-B*19%. Conclusion: The ultraviolet reflectance can be estimated by visible reflectance. Also, it is important to select a variety of materials according to the application when blocking UV.

The paper applied self-made ultraviolet resistant finishing agent UV-R to treat cotton and T/C fabˉrics. The ultraviolet transmittance of the fabrics treated with UV-R was depressed largely. The anti-ultraviolet propˉerty and its durable anti-ultraviolet property was developed. The result of comparative experiments shows that it has better performance than that of the same kind products.

The ultraviolet blocking agents used to skincare are largely classified ultraviolet scattering agent and ultraviolet absorbent agents. There are UVC, UVB, and UBA in ultraviolet ray(UV) showing shorter wavelength than visible light. Both visible light and UVA give rise to 1st dark-skinned phenomena....

Theoretical analysis of weaving structure parameters affecting ultraviolet transmittance is analyzed.Fabrics with different weaves and different structure parameters are prepared. The ultraviolet transmittance of the fabrics is tested to verify the reasonableness. The results show that ultraviolet transmittance is increased when average floating points increased, and it is affected by intertexture.Pores of fabrics are main factors to affect ultraviolet transmittance,it not only has relation to covering factors, but also concerns average floating points, intertexture and variability of interweave.

An ideal model of a cell full of coronaviruses is considered. The propagation of ultraviolet electromagnetic waves in such a dielectric medium is examined to ascertain whether the ultraviolet radiation may deliver energy to the medium. With the known observations of refractive indices of cell and virus, above the ultraviolet wavelengths, it is computed that the ultraviolet radiation in the UVB – UVA band of wavelengths (280 – 400 nm) deliver “excessive” energy to the dielectric medium. Thus, light at ultraviolet wavelengths may penetrate tissue and disintegrate coronavirus in cells. Ultraviolet light therapy at narrow range of wavelengths in the UVB – UVA band, for “lower” levels and “briefer” periods of radiation exposure, may reduce severity of conditions in the gravely affected coronavirus patients. The material and equipment may be sanitized with the exposure to ultraviolet radiation in the UVC band of wavelengths (100 – 180 nm). The use of “UV protected” glasses is “a must” to safeguard one’s eyes from the ultraviolet radiation exposure.

Editor—We have studied the ultraviolet light output of ultraviolet A sunbeds available for hire in Bradford and found a striking variability in the output of both ultraviolet A and ultraviolet B.1 Results from the analysis of the 50 sunbeds studied showed a threefold variation in ultraviolet A output with a mean output of 13.5 mW/cm2 and a 60-fold variation with a mean of 19.2 µW/cm2 for ultraviolet B. …

Heat enhances the injurious effect of ultraviolet light exposure. This has been shown in mice subjected to acute ultraviolet burns and in mice killed by continuous ultraviolet exposure. Mice living in a heated environment did not live as long as mice kept at room temperature. The rate of development of skin tumors was higher in mice exposed to ultraviolet light and kept in a hot environment than in mice exposed to ultraviolet light and kept at room temperature or heated for three hours after exposure. Fewer tumors appeared in mice heated for three hours before ultraviolet exposure.

Apart from the special glasses used for the building pockets, almost all of the glasses are permeable against the ultraviolet lights. Therefore it is more practical and economical to provide protection against ultraviolet lights via curtains in the fronts instead of special glasses. In this study; the ultraviolet protection fabrics of the 100% cotton woven fabric, which is raw, bleached, dyed without being applied ultraviolet absorbent and dyed after being applied ultraviolet absorbent in different concentration.According to the results, it was determined that a prefect protection can be enabled indoors by using ultraviolet absorbent, and the results showed that the ultraviolet protection increases with increase in the concentration of ultraviolet absorbent in the samples.
