    Abstract:
Sina Weibo (Weibo) is a fast growing microblogging social network with total user size closer to Twitter. Weibo adopts a mechanism to verify users, so that the public can identify true accounts of celebrities and official channels of certain organizations. The verification mechanism builds trust and authenticity to the source, and hence, stimulates people to actively participate on the platform. However, how the verifications affect the user behaviors in microblogging social networks have never been fully investigated. This paper analyzes the Weibo social network with verifications, by comparing the user microblogging behaviors between verified users and unverified users and studying the social network evolvements of these two group of users. In addition, a method is proposed to approximately reconstruct the network evolvement, and lower bound quasi-densification exponents for the social networks are found. Empirical evidence demonstrates that verifications play a significant role in motivating users to have more interactions in a social network.

Microblogs are popular online services on Internet. Many popular microblogging services have been empirically investigated. This paper attempts to seek unique characteristics of a peculiar microblogging service: Yiban Microblog. It is limited to college students and staffs with inherent verified accounts. We conduct an almost exhaustive measurement on the Yiban microblogging service. Unexpectedly, these college students are empirically found to seldom login into Yiban Microblog, reluctantly to post microblogs, and to follow few other users. Such observations imply that Yiban Microblog is fading continuously although many thousands of new college students are invited to participate the Yiban Microblogging service every year.

Microblogging websites such as Twitter and Chinese Sina Weibo contain large amounts of microblogs posted by users. Many of these microblogs are highly sensitive to the important real-world events and correlated to the news events. Thus, microblogs from these websites can be collected as comments for the news to reveal the opinions and attitude towards the news event among large number of users. In this paper, we present a framework to automatically collect relevant microblogs from microblogging websites to generate comments for popular news on news websites.

With the rapid growth of social media websites, microblogging has become a popular way to spread instant news and events. Due to the dynamic and social nature of microblogs, extracting useful information from microblogs is more challenging than from the traditional news articles. In this paper we study the problem of summarizing the differences from microblogs. Given a collection of microblogs discussing an event/topic, we propose to generate a short summary delivering the differences among these microblogs, such as the different points of view for a news topic and the changes and evolution of an ongoing event.

With the emergence and development of Microblog in China, it has become prevalent in recent years for web media and social network to become hybrid and converged. Many Chinese Microblog platforms have been available as new network media services. Although the native Chinese Microblog services are working similar in terms of basic function and Application Programming Interface(API), there are many different characteristics in many aspects such as users features, message contents and structures. in this paper, we conduct a thorough comparison among the Chinese Microblog platforms. on one hand, we propose a method for gaining users' information and hot topics based on Microblog APIs of the top 4 popular Chinese Native Microblog services, Sina Microblog, Ten cent Microblog, Sohu Microblog and Net ease Microblog. on the other hand, we depict the social network of the four services based on the relationships among Microblog users and analyze the content to find out what kinds of topics are hot. Based on these two procedures, we present some remarks on the differences and similarities among these four services. upon the above analysis, users' characteristics, similarities and differences of contents based on various microblog platforms are specifically demonstrated and articulated.
