Study of the fuzzy PID controlled super-capacitor auxiliary power system of the electrical vehicle

2010
A way to use super-capacitor as energy storage element to achieve regenerative braking energy recovery is presented, and the average model for the control circuit of the super-capacitor regenerative braking system is established based on fully analysis of the dynamic model of DC/DC full-bridge converter. The self-tuning fuzzy PID controller with the super-capacitor in charging/discharging states is designed according to the non-linear characteristics of the DC/DC converter. The simulation test shows that the self-tuning fuzzy PID controlled super-capacitor regenerative braking system is more effective than the gain PID control in increasing the driving current of the electric vehicle, improving its starting and accelerating performance, extending its driving range, particularly in improving its performance in responsive time and robustness.
