MULTIWORKS - A Multimedia Integrated Workstation

1989
This paper presents MULTIWORKS, a large Technology Integration Project aiming at the development of a low cost integrated multimedia workstation for the office of the future. In this project full use is made of high-performance European RISC technology and design on silicon techniques in order to produce significant improvements in processor architecture and speed of execution. The software also uses European technology for operating system, Al environment and applications. It is UNIX based and will adhere to international standards. The combination of new features with advances in user interface design produce a significant increase in the usability of the system over products presently on the market. A complete description of the structure of the project is given, with details on the most significant innovative choices at the basis of this development.
