Ash monitoring using a model based expert system and simulator for Genesee generating station

The development phase of an ash monitoring expert system for Edmonton Power Inc.`s Genesee coal-fired generating station is described. The off-line system uses a state of the art expert system shell for locating ash deposits in a coal-fired steam generator. The expert system is simpler and more reliable than earlier models of ash monitoring systems and can be modified easily to perform other control functions. The system is expected to be cost saving, because of reduced downtime, decreased maintenance, and higher thermal and cycle efficiencies. 3 refs., 2 figs.
