Role of RGD in Integrin and Fibronecin Mediated Biological Process

2008
Integrin directly participate in the control of cellular differentiation, morphogenesis, proliferation, and migrationin in Cell-matrix interactions,Many of these interactions with the extracellular matrix are mediated by the integrin family of cell adhesion molecules. In addition to their adhesive function, integrin receptor function can be regarded as a key modulator of cellular behaviour[1].Among the many molecules that are selectively expressed inangiogenic vasculature, the integrins show particular promise in tumor targeting.Saiki and co-worlers reported that tumor angiogenins can be inhibited by the interaction between integrins and the RGD(Arg-Gly-Asp) motif-containing extra cellular matrix proteins[2].One of the most studied target epitopes on angiogenic neovasculature is the αvβ3 and αvβ integrins are upregulated in angiogenic endothelial cells[3] and the inhibition of these integrins by antibodies, cyclic RGD peptides[4] and RGD peptidomimetics can block neovascularization.this review is to outline what is the role of RGD in integrin and fibronecin mediated biological process.
