Plasmon enhanced upconversion in water-dispersible metal-insulator-metal nanostructures

We present results on enhanced upconversion of NaYF 4 : Er 3+ , Yb 3+ nanoparticles using a metal-insulator-metal structure that can eventually be dispersed in solution. Enhancement of 1200x in photoluminescence and 3.8x in energy transfer rate is observed.
