Regression of lipedematous scalp following cryolipolysis using an ice-pack with a novel dermoscopic feature of yellow background.

2021
Lipedematous scalp (LS) is a rare condition characterized by fatty infiltration of the dermis of the scalp and imparts a characteristic boggy feel.1 Histopathology is confirmatory and demonstrates adipocyte hyperplasia. Treatment is generally unsatisfactory. We report a case of LS with alopecia with novel dermoscopic features and regression following a novel method of cryolipolysis. Case: A 50-year old healthy female presented with pruritus, tingling, boggy swelling and relative sparseness of hair over the frontal scalp since 3 years (figure 1a). Polarized dermoscopy revealed yellow-orange background coloration, reduced hair density, perifollicular accentuation, pigmentation and mild hyperkeratosis (figure 1b).
