ELECTRONIC DEVICE AND CHARACTER RECOGNITION METHOD THEREOF

Various embodiments of the present invention relate to an electronic device and a character recognition method therefor. The electronic device comprises: a housing; a touch screen display exposed through a first portion of the housing; an image sensor exposed through a second portion of the housing; a processor operatively coupled to the touch screen display and the image sensor; and a memory operatively coupled to the processor, wherein the memory may store instructions that, when executed, cause the processor to display a user interface including an image, which is obtained from the image sensor or stored in the memory; to detect a boundary of an area containing text in the image so as to recognize the area, for optical character recognition; to compare the size of the area with a specified size and to select the area for the optical character recognition on the basis, at least in part, of the result of comparison.
