Measurements of wave characteristics based on binocular vision and Zero-crossing method

2018
The paper presented a new method to estimate wave parameters based on stereo (binocular) vision, such as wave heights and wave periods. Using binocular vision, wave transformation in near shore water can be measured in wave altitude. Stereo image pairs were acquired for 17 minutes and 2 seconds at interval of two times per second. The total measurement numbers are 2048 times. Wave vertical altitudes can be extracted from the datum according to binocular vision. By zero-crossing method, wave heights and wave periods can be estimated based on wave vertical altitudes. Experimental results have shown that the method is effective.
