Autologous Transplantation of Blood-Versus Marrow Derived Hemopoietic Stem Cells
1991
Possible indications for autologous blood stem cell transplantation (ABSCT) have still to be evaluated and defined. We therefore studied: 1) the kinetics of hemopoietic reconstitution; 2) the transplant-related toxicity and mortality; 3) disease-free survival and 4) possible prognostic factors on disease-free survival in patients with first remission AML following myeloablative therapy and ABSCT. The above parameters were compared under mostly standardized conditions in a group of patients autografted with purged marrow-derived stem cells (ABMT). All transplants were performed in first complete remission (CR), following conventional induction chemotherapy.
