АЗАРТНЫЕ ИГРЫ В ЖИЗНИ ПРОВИНЦИАЛЬНОГО ЧИНОВНИКА ПОСЛЕДНЕЙ ТРЕТИ XIX В. (ПО МАТЕРИАЛАМ ЛИЧНОГО ФОНДА Е.П. КЛЕВАКИНА)

Based on the published and unpublished materials of the personal fund of E.P. Klevakin, the authors of the article is trying to determine the place and role of games of chance in the life of a provincial official of the last third of the XIX century. The authors came to the conclusion, that games of chance occupied an important place in the everyday life of E.P. Klevakin and were an integral part of his leisure. The official gave preference to intellectual commercial card games, but he also enjoyed games based entirely on luck, including lotteries. According to the authors, gambling performed the functions of socialization and recreation in the life of the provincial bureaucracy.
