Chemisorption of hexafluoropropene on activated aerosil

1987
Abstract Aerosil surfaces promoted with CsOH or CsF were reacted with hexafluoropropene. The chemisorption was studied by elemental analyses, thermogravimetry and infrared spectroscopy, while the shielding effect of the chemisorbed species was tested by pyridine adsorption. Hexafluoropropene was mainly dimerized on the surface by anionic sites like Si s O - forming molecular species like Si s OCF 2 CF ( CF 3 ) CF 2 CF = CF 2 . Assuming formation of dimers, a nearly maximum surface coverage was obtained.
