M[e]nino ou m[i]nino? Bol[o] ou bol[u]? O tratamento das vogais do português brasileiro (LE) por manuais voltados a aprendizes argentinos

2013
In this article, we investigate the teaching of phonetic-phonological  aspects of Brazilian Portuguese as a Foreign Language in two series of coursebooks aimed at Argentinean learners. We concentrate our discussion on the teaching of the Brazilian Portuguese vowel system. Our analysis has shown that, even though the two collections concentrate on the teaching of stressed vowels, there is little agreement with regard to the teaching of vowels in unstressed positions. Final unstressed vowels are approached in the two teaching materials, whereas pretonic variation is marginally addressed. The results in this study highlight the important role to be played by a consistent theoretical basis brought by teachers when using these materials.
