Trends of Kala-azar in India with Special Reference to Bihar and Uttar Pradesh

Five species of genus Phlebotomus and six species of genus Sergentomyia have been recorded from five districts of Bihar namely Vaishali, Samastipur, Begusarai, Muzaffarpur, Khagaria and Patna. The maximum abundance of sandflies was recorded during July to September and minimum during month of January. The maximum abundance in monsoon lead the destruction of natural breeding sites and flies migrate to human dwellings and cattle shed. This migration cause increasing vector population in human habitats
