Vegetacao em areas verdes urbanas: estudo de caso no Campus do Vale UFRGS, Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil

2015
Recently, the functions of green areas in cities have been rethought and classified into two major tasks: conservation of flora and associated fauna and human recreation. This study has identified the plant species present in Secto r IV Campus do Vale UFRGS, Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. It was found that approx imately 50% of individuals have exotic origin, although the number of exotic and native species is equivalent. The number of individuals is higher in the corridors between buildings used for longer time and shorter in parking areas. It is suggested that the administrative sector of the Campus contact experts on the subject to implant a system of planning and management of green areas in order to enhance their use for conservation and environmental education without loss of landscaping
