2015
Saiha, the southernmost town in the state of Mizoram experienced massive landslides after cloud burst in the year 1995. The town is situated on a hill top within one of the backward regions of the state in respect of electrical, communication and transportation systems. Continuous monsoon in the year 2010 caused sinking at old landslide area in the heart of the town. About 210 houses were affected, and many transverse cracks are seen in the town. Due to technical and financial problems, a traditional Mizo technique, i.e. marked stick are utilized at the boundary of affected and undisturbed area. This technique worked as the warning signs for the local people, enabling evacuation of inhabitants from the area to the safe place.
