Indoor Positioning System (IPS) in Hospitals

2021
Positioning systems can be used in a wide range of applications. Multiple technologies have been used in the past to reduce error in measuring position indoors. However, most of them have proven to be expensive and are dependent on hardware heavy solutions for locating objects or people indoors. This paper introduces an indoor positioning method that makes use of values from basic sensors, i.e., accelerometer and magnetometer found in any modern mobile device, to predict the exact location of the end-users. This is done without continuous use of GPS or other triangulation techniques. The goal of the paper is to introduce a frugal innovation to track doctors in any hospital using the sensors on their android devices without any auxiliary hardware. This allows for faster access to the doctors in case of an emergency through a reliable and a cost effective solution.
