A comparison of two global optimization algorithms for hybrid vehicle energy management

In the last decade, energy management for hybrid electric vehicles has been widely studied. It allows computing the power split between the different energy sources of a hybrid vehicle in order to improve the fuel economy and reduce the emissions of vehicles. Global optimization algorithms are limited to simulation as they rely on speed cycles and one of the most difficult, but promising, objective is to derive efficient real time control strategies. The first section presents two global optimization approaches. The first one is based on the optimal control theory and uses Lagrange formalism. The second, based on Dijkstra's algorithm requires formulating the optimization problem as a shortest path problem. In the second section, a way to derive real time control strategies from the previous algorithms will be investigated and their performances will be compared.
