A classification framework for automotive build-to-order concepts

2006
Although product design and product image play an important role in the European automotive industry to maintain or gain market shares, the focus of ILIPT is on integration of product, process and network structure concepts of the future automotive supply chain to enable the prerequisites for a 100%-BTO manufacturing system with short customer order lead times. Consequently several issues need to be addressed to answer the central question, i.e. whether 100% BTO production is more profitable and manageable. The BTO Reference Model provides a classification framework for BTO reference concepts and integrates reference processes and structures. Thus it is the basis for the detailed BTO concept validation. It supports the assessment of applicability of a BTO concept in a given industry-based use case according to costs and logistics performance and ecological aspects.
