Evaluating the Performance of Dye-Sensitized Solar Cell with Various Key Components such as Electrodes, Dyes, and Electrolytes

2017
Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSC) which when compared to other thin film solar cells hold virtues such as greater price to performance ratio, low cost of manufacturing, ability to work at wider spectrum and low light, and is mechanically robust. DSSCs have been fabricated with different combinations of conducting electrodes, dyes, and electrolytes. For fabrication of DSSCs, TiO2 has been used as a semiconductor with wide band gap. Performances of these cells have been studied. Open-circuit voltage, short-circuit current, fill factor, and efficiency of these cells have also been reported. It has been observed that these parameters depend on the combination of the electrode, dye, and electrolyte. Possibility of graphene as a transparent electrode has also been explored.
