A compound diesel oxidation catalyst layers, comprising: a catalytic material diesel oxidation on a carrier, wherein the catalytic material comprises a palladium component in an amount in the range of 5 to 75 g / ft3 (0.18 to 2.65 kg / m3) and at least two layers: a trap hydrocarbon layer comprising at least one molecular sieve, where the trap layer is substantially free of hydrocarbon palladium; and a layer containing palladium component comprising palladium and is substantially free of a molecular sieve, wherein the palladium component is located on a porous refractory metal oxide, high surface area; wherein the porous support refractory metal oxide comprises a high surface area alumina having a pore volume in the range of 0.5 to 1.5 cm3 / g and an average pore diameter of at least 75 A.
