Preference of low-vision devices in the Hong Kong low-vision population

2005
Abstract Data were extracted between the period of January 2001 and December 2004 from the General Eye and Low Vision Centre (GELVC), operated by the Hong Kong Society for the Blind (HKSB). The present study showed that maculopathy, cataract, retinal degeneration, and retinitis pigmentosa were the major causes of low vision in Hong Kong. The most common low-vision devices dispensed in Hong Kong were foldable magnifiers, near high addition spectacles, and illuminated stand magnifiers. Age, gender, and visual acuity were the factors affecting the choice of low-vision devices.
