Identification methods of important parameters for near-fault pulse-type ground motions

2009
During the process of fitting or synthesizing near-fault ground motion, parameters in the equivalent velocity pulse need to be decided based on seismic records. Thus,it is a key problem on how to identify these parameters from seismic records.Pulse period and pulse peak velocity are important parameters in the equivalent velocity pulse models. In this study, various methods on identifying the parameters are reviewed. It is shown that all the existing methods have limitations, especially for the irregular seismic records. And a new method is proposed to identify the pulse period and the peak pulse velocity from the smoothed seismic records, and its validity is also verified. It's shown that the new method can overcome the limitations of the previous methods and can be used to identify the pulse period and the peak pulse velocity by program.
