Simulation study on Torque Vector Control for Wheel e-motor Driving light Duty Vehicle

2021
This paper utilizes a 6x6 wheel-side e-motor driven truck on torque vectoring control studies, especially in its calculation paths and methods for deriving the e-motors’ target value. Considering the boundary conditions of road surface friction and overall vehicle driving stability, torque distribution strategy controls each wheel-side e-motor respectively, which aims at controlling the overall vehicle optimally to have a better driving stability performance. Accordingly, Torque Vector Control (TVC) for 6x6 wheel-side truck is developed in Simulink, vehicle simulations are implemented in TruckMaker. By means of performing TruckMaker & Matlab/Simulink co-simulation, vehicle stability performance under TVC strategy is analyzed and improved. This paper chooses two use cases, which are constant radius circle cornering and double lane changing, to demonstrate what benefits TVC can provide. The results show that TVC provide signification improvements in both longitude and lateral directions, including the reduces of wheel slip, and higher rolling over lateral acceleration.
