Flexible matrix and battery separator embodying it. [asbestos mat impregnated with poly(phenylene oxide)]

The separator is made by immersing a mat of chrysotile asbestos in a 13% solution of poly(phenylene oxide) at 150/sup 0/F. The results is dip-coated with an inorganic separator material. The product has improved resistance to potassium hydroxide. (RWR)
