Composition dependence of the effective hyperfine field in amorphous Fe-early transition metal alloys
1984
Abstract A large number of amorphous Fe-early transition metal (Fe-EM; EM = Y, Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Nb, Ta, Mo, W) alloys have been prepared by a high rate sputtering technique and studied by 57 Fe Mossbauer spectroscopy. For all the magnetic samples the effective hyperfine field (H eff ) at 4.2 K varies in an essentially linear way through the relation H eff (x) = mx − b where x is the Fe concentration, m is nearly independent of the EM alloying element, and b is characteristic of a particular alloy. Based on the available data, it has been found that the size of the EM element plays an important role in determining the magnitude of H eff .
