Residual moveout estimation and application to AVO, stack enhancement, and tomography

Common image gathers, in either the offset or angle domain, are generally produced in the process of performing prestack time or depth migration. Residual moveout errors along the offset, or angle axis will be present unless the velocity field used in the imaging step is exact. This paper describes a method for automatically estimating the residual moveout error, and then using this estimate for improving AVO, and stack fidelity. In the tomography application, the residual moveout error estimation is an integral part of the process, as it is this error that is minimized in solving for the optimum migration velocity.
