Pergerakan Meridional Dan Zonal Itcz Dalam Kaitannya Dengan Curah Hujan Di Wilayah Benua Maritim Indonesia

2011
Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) is a dominant feature of atmospheric dynamics in the tropical region affecting weather and climate in this region in the form of wind, cloud and rainfall modulation. ITCZ is a rising branch of the Hadley Circullation, which can be seen clearly from satellite images as a band of clouds in the tropical region extending from the west to the east. ITCZ moves meridionally following the sun position. Research on ITCZ movement is crucial in order to better understand phenomena such as Monsoon, El-Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO), Indian Ocean Dipole Mode (IODM, convectively Coupled Equatorial Waves such asMadden Julian Oscillation (MJO), and Tropical Cyclone genesis. Research has been conducted to study meridional movement of the ITCZ using monthly rainfall data from the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) satellite during 1998-2010. In this research, ITCZ positions were determined as mean latitudional position with maximum rainfall according to TRMM satellite. The results showed consistent poleward jumps of the ITCZmean latitudional position, which occurred every year during 1998-2010. The results support Chao Experiment using a General Circulation Model that showed ITCZ jumps related to monsson onset. Further study were carried out on zonal movement of the ITCZ which showed consistent patterns of migration.
