Acute bilateral dense cortical cataracts as a first manifestation of juvenile diabetes mellitus in a 12-year-old girl.

A 12-year-old girl with no previous visual complaints < or diagnosis of diabetes mellitus presented with sud- i denly developing bilateral cataracts and related decreased vision. On examination, visual acuity was bilateral light perception and dense cortical cataract was < identified. This is an unusual manifestation in a 12-year-old patient. After regulation of blood glucose levels, phacoemulsification was performed in both eyes in different sessions. The patient's vision improved.
