Reaction over the SnTe-CdS cross section in the SnTe + CdS in equilibrium SnS + CdTe ternary reciprocal system

1986
The authors investigate the phase equilibria over the SnTe-CdS cross section. Specimens of the SnTe-CdS system were prepared from cadmium sulfide with a total content of less than 10/sup -3/ mass % of controlled impurities and tin telluride, synthesized from OVCh-000 tin and T-V4 tellurium. The reaction over the SnTe-CdS cross section was studied with the aid of the methods of differetial-thermal analysis, x-ray phase analysis, and microstructural analysis. The maximum extension of solid solutions were SnTe-based solid solutions ca 12 mole % at 725 C and ca 2 mole % CdS at 400 C. The maximum extension of solid solutions based on CdS is less than 1 mole % SnTe.
