Adenosine-Triphosphatase Deficiency in a Family with Non-Spherocytic Haemolytic Anaemia

2009
A family with depressed ATP-ase activity in erythrocytes is examined. The deficiency was in some members of the family accompanied by non-sperocytic haemolytic anaemia. Biochemical investigations indicate that digoxin-sensitive ATP-ase is reduced, in some cases to zero in presumably homozygotes. It is concluded that the ATP-ase deficiency is probably due to reduced synthesis of the K, Na, Mg-stimulated ATP-ase.
