A Proposal to Develop a Microfluidic Platform with GMR Sensors and the Use of Magnetic Nanoparticles in Order to Detect Cancerous Cells: Preliminary experimentation

2019
In this paper, the experimentation and the preliminary results in the development of a microfluidic device are presented with giant magnetoresistance sensors GMR; by using functionalized magnetic nanoparticles, the system must detect, separate and quantify cancer cells from isolated samples. The first advance was to experiment with a straight microchannel manufactured with the soft lithography technique, of dimensions; width 500 $\mu$m, depth 60 $\mu$m and 1.2 cm long, Through the microchannel circulate magnetic nanoparticles (Fe 3 O 4 of Neem oil) dissolved in methanol, injected with an infusion pump, the channel is placed on top of commercial sensor GMR AAH002-02 from NVE Corporation. Finally, the voltage signal of the sensor is observed in the oscilloscope when the nanoparticles pass through the microchannel.
