The cannabinoid receptor type 1 in the murine nervous system

2004
The aim of this thesis was to gain insights into the physiological roles of the cannabinoid receptor CB1 in the mammalian nervous system. Therefore, interactions of the cannabinoid system with other receptor systems were investigated. Using different methods, it was shown that CB1 colocalizes with other receptors within the same neurons and, thus, regulates different signal transduction pathways in concert with these receptor systems. Experiments in cell culture systems and defined mouse models gave hints to functional networks of the cannabinoid system during pathological processes such as neurotoxicity and inflammation. Therefore, the cannabinoid system would be a potential target for the treatment of various diseases within the nervous system.
