Optimization Design of C-type Iron Core for HTS DC Induction Heater

This paper presents an optimization method of C- type iron core for high temperature superconducting (HTS) direct-current (DC) induction heater. In order to maximize the magnetic field in the heating area without changing the coil size and the ampere-turns, it is necessary to optimize the structure of the core. The effect of aspect ratio and magnetic path length of the core on the magnetic field in the heating area have been evaluated. The effect of the chamfer and fillet of the core on the magnetic field in the heating area, which is based on the determination of the length and aspect ratio of the core, has also been developed. And the effect of chamfering and filleting on heating aluminum is carried out by the numerical analysis using commercial finite- element software.
