A Study on the Measurement of Populism of the Masses in China

2020
The analysis of the connotation and empirical research of populism shows that populism is a measurable concept. Through sorting out the manifestations of Chinese populism and the discourse of network populism, a populism scale with 23 indicators, including 6 dimensions of hatred of officials, national populism, anti-system, hatred of the rich, populist justice and hatred of experts, has been formed. Using this scale to examine the samples from all levels of Chinese society, we find that China as a whole does not have obvious populist characteristics.
