97. Type I Interferon Response Against Virus Vectors and Non-Viral Gene Transfer

The first line of defense that gene delivery vectors, viral or non-viral, confront in cells is the type I interferon (IFN) response. Cells produce type I IFNs as a response to dsRNA (intermediates of viral replication) and other viral components. IFNs induce the expression of IFN stimulated genes that can be used as markers for IFN response. One of these IFN stimulated genes is the Myxovirus resistance protein A (MxA).
